I need to be honest with you; I can get stressed so easily sometimes. When I look at that long “to-do” list of things I want to accomplish with my business and website, it can feel so overwhelming!

Can you relate? (I’m sure you can, you’re an entrepreneur after all 😉 )

See, sometimes I just wish I could stop time and get everything on that list done.

But… do you know what happens instead?


Absolutely, nothing.

I start working on one of those tasks but it seems I just go around in circles and that list never gets finished.

You know what I mean, don’t you?

Don’t get me wrong, I work hard but for some reason it feels that no matter how much effort I put in, I just don’t feel like I’m moving forward as fast as I want.

Well, that was until I discovered this simple trick involving fruit. 

That’s right, fruit!

I got to the point where I had to seriously look at what I was doing and see why even if I am working 12 hours a day (seriously.) I still felt like I had so much to do. At first I put it down to work overload but after further inspection I realized some critical things that I wasn’t doing.

If you are working on creating your DIY website or just overwhelmed at everything you have on your list in general… this is for you (especially tip #3).

1. ‘Power Hour’

clockI’ve come to realize that we all have ‘power hours’ (excuse me if that term is already used else where, I thought it was catchy 🙂 ). For me, I am the most productive in the morning before noon. After that, my energy and attention drifts and it takes more effort to get things done. Some of us are night owls and some people thrive after 3:00pm (if that’s you, what’s your secret??).

Take some time to analyze when you are the most focused during your day and use that time to tackle the big thing on your list.


2. NO-cial Media

social fbI used to check my emails and Facebook first thing in the morning. While it was great in the beginning, as I started to grow my business it started taking up more and more time. I know you know what I mean! I have decided that unless it is essential for me to be on social media in the morning (like helping my DIY Website Academy students after setting a time/date), my day is so much more productive if I don’t check Facebook before 10:00 AM. This goes back to my ‘power hour’ and by wasting my precious energy and focus when it’s at its peak on social media, the rest of the day when I actually need to get things done is so much harder.

Try one day of not checking Facebook before 10:00 AM and let me know what happens 🙂


3. Fruit Salad 

appleOk, this is where the fruit comes in (and it’s not what you think). Once I have worked on the big tasks in the morning, I use the afternoon to tackle ‘low hanging fruit’. This means, doing all of those little tasks that I seem to put off but can really be done in a short amount of time. See, these are the things that make your to-do list so long and overwhelming because it seems like it’s a never-ending list. Set yourself a (realistic) time limit and see just how many ‘low hanging fruits’ you can pick and make a delicious productivity fruit salad!


I hope these tips can help you as much as they have helped me. Always remember, without a system things can feel so much more overwhelming than they really are. You can do this!
